“It was often thought, from a kind of false evangelism, that to reduce Christianity to some gentle philanthropy was to honor it. But unless it is seen to be the most. realistic and. cosmic of faiths and hopes, nothing has been understood of its ‘mysteries.’” —Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, The Human Phenomenon
In an inclusive and intellectually rigorous way Cynthia Bourgeault will make the case for a return to that germinal Christian affirmation that Jesus the Christ is not merely a “universal consciousness” or an “enlightened teacher,” but a cosmic event that subtly shifted the foundations of heaven and earth. Drawing on insights from St. Paul, the Quaker mystics, and Teilhard de Chardin, she will evoke the renewed sense of coherence, clarity, and compassion that emerges when the Jesus of personal devotion and the Christ of cosmogonic mysticism again flow together as a unified field of love.
