Getting Started
Welcome! We are so glad you have found this Wisdom path and the Wisdom Waypoints network. Below, you will find some helpful suggestions for getting started.
What Is Wisdom?
“Wisdom” refers to the great underground stream running through all forms of religion and spirituality. It requires a vessel (you) and an active feedback loop between the water (Wisdom stream) and the container (you). There is a particular flavor depending on the streambed through which Wisdom flows, yet it is never in competition with other streambeds.
Wisdom generates the capacity to know more deeply, with more of yourself available, so you can be responsive in the present moment. Deeply is not the same as having more information or knowledge, rather it is having more of yourself available—meaning the mind, emotions, body, and beyond. Responsive means to be of service from your heart, not from compulsion or on a mechanical auto-pilot, but awake and conscious in the present moment.
Find Your Foundation
In Cynthia Bourgeault’s lineage, we work with her unique fusion of the Christian mystical tradition and the practical training in mindfulness and non-identification as set forth in the Gurdjieff Work. For more on this unique Wisdom lineage, read here.
Cynthia’s Wisdom School’s are a singular opportunity to immerse in the root of the tradition—learning the themes, concepts, and vocabulary—while also practicing the unique Wisdom rhythm transmuted into modern life.
Wisdom Waypoints online courses endeavor to bring forward the essence of Cynthia’s Wisdom School’s while being available in an accessible, on-demand format—ready to begin when you are. To gain a foundational understanding of Cynthia’s lineage, we recommend new students start with either our “Introductory Wisdom School” or “Gurdjieff for Christians.” You can also review Cynthia’s extensive collection of books, including our suggested starting guide, here.
Create a Practice
A consistent spiritual practice is the steady drumbeat of a Wisdom life. Cultivating a daily rhythm of silence, prayer, embodied and inner work—both alone and with others—slowly shapes the stable presence of Wisdom in one’s life. At Wisdom Waypoints, we host daily online opportunities for meditation, chanting, seasonal Lectio Divina, and a monthly contemplative Eucharist. Join us in amplifying your practice in a global network of Wisdom seekers. Read here
