If you want to get poetic about this, you might say that silence is a kind of geosphere, with its own currents, prevailing winds, and frontal systems moving through, and in both sailing and Centering Prayer you learn how to be wordlessly in the moment and “in the groove.” It’s a spiritual-kinesthetic affinity that I guess I find riveting. But that may all may be way too fancy. It may be something as simple as being in the sea (the immensity) and away from human noise (I mostly sail alone.) Something wonderfully unevolved and quirky like that.
