What is a Wisdom Eucharist? How do I prepare?
On the outside, a Wisdom Eucharist might look much like any other celebration of the Eucharist – readings, prayers, elements to be consecrated and shared. However, from the inside there’s a different emphasis. A Wisdom celebration of the Eucharist first and foremost is an encounter – with Jesus, the Living Teacher; with the Holy One in whose Mercy all are held; with the Communion of Saints, visible and invisible.
A Wisdom Eucharist is also a stepping into or maybe a stepping through. The consecrated elements become a portal through which we step into/through the living stream of self-emptying Love. As Raimon Panikkar puts is, “I am one with the Source insofar as I act like a source, allowing everything that I have received to flow again – just like Jesus.”
Finally, as Cynthia puts it in The Wisdom Jesus, the Eucharist from a Wisdom perspective is not so much concerned with how Jesus enters into time and form through transubstantiation or consubstantiation, but how we are transported of elements into but how we are transported beyond it, united with the Mystical Body of Christ.
From all of this, it can also be noted that celebrating the Eucharist from this perspective is a three-centered practice.
As far as preparation goes, the more that we are in a collected state – open and available, the more deeply we might enter into the mystery of what is unfolding in the celebration.
