Unbeknowst to many the heart has been central to qigong practices since first written down in 350BC. The first stanza of the original Daoist text reads “When the vital essence of all things…[is] stored within the chests of human beings, we call them sages” (Neiye, Roth translation). The traditional practice of qigong places a strong emphasis on first grounding, relaxing, and strengthening our physical/energetic bodies. The result is a strong container which naturally invites a deeper experience of our varied heart qualities. This happens both individually and in the group field. While this course focuses on the awareness and spiritual elements of qigong, the health benefits happen naturally. Note: the Saturday class will be done seated. Conscious movement while seated is guaranteed to enhance our whole body mystical awakening, what we might refer to as “extrovertive mysticism”.
From a current student:
“In a few short months, I have come to deeply appreciate how Allen leads us in the exploration of ‘qi’ and weaving it into sensation-based wisdom principles. These qigong movements seem to be in mutually beneficial, exploratory dialogue with so much of the Gurdjieff exercises/movements. To be clear, you do end up feeling bodily exercised in each class, but there are also aspects of forming heart connections, developing self-knowing and experiencing web-connections with each other in the class. Again, I’m so glad to be part of this class.” – Yin Mei Lawrence
