Well and Flame: Chant by Elizabeth Combs

Lyrics:

May I never never lose my way

To the well of your memory

And the power of your living flame

May it rise

May it rise in me.

This chant emerged after immersing myself in song, poetry, scripture, long forest walks, the MM book, and friendship with this group of wisdom women over the past few weeks in preparation for the beginning of these circles.

To me, this chant carries a strong sense of Earth, Water, Fire and Air, in order as the chant goes along. Do you hear that? Also the sense of reclaiming and remembering someone precious, someone whose essence heals across timelines, someone necessary then and now and yet to be. It is very relational and grounded in that way.

It is a song of intention, wonderful for beginning our journey together with our circles. (That is my wish.)

This is a layered recording, one I hope will inspire listeners to chant along, make harmonies, and remember the pure joy of chanting in person together. It is not technically perfect by a long shot — which hopefully will be more inviting for folks to sing along with.

The essence of the words came to me via Starhawk. I believe she wrote this as a song to the goddess Brigid, although I have never heard it or been able to find it when searching. The tune came through me.
