Tai Chi as Embodied Mystical Practice
January 9 - February 13
The four foundational qualities of tai chi are peng, lu, ji, and an.
Peng is the experience of expansion in all directions, buoyancy… a welcoming of whatever life brings us. Lu is the experience of becoming flowing like water…flowing with whatever life brings us; Ji the experience of becoming strong, condensed and focused, like a rhinoceros… I’m here and I’m not moving regardless of what comes my way. An is the density and inexorability of lava flowing downhill…the experience of unstoppability. In this six week class we’ll experience these “jings” as manifestations of spiritual qualities energies and in the field of the class. Included as well will be the physical and psychological experiences of each jing and the interplay amongst them. We’ll also shape them into their specific tai chi expressions of ward-off, rollback, press and push (aka Grasp the Sparrow’s Tail). No previous tai chi experience needed. These practices are an excellent complement to sitting meditation practices.
